Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening for men turning 65

Update

Men of Lancashire and South Cumbria, and Marton Medical practice. This is for you. It could save your life!

When you turn 65, the NHS invites you to be screened for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). This is where the walls of the aorta weaken with age and swell up – if you have one and it bursts, it is likely to be fatal. An AAA has no symptoms, so getting screened is the only way to find out if you have one.

Screening is a quick and pain free ultrasound, and you find out your results there and then. You will automatically receive your invitation in the post – please don’t ignore it! It could save your life.

If you are over 65 and have never been screened, you can still make an appointment by calling your AAA screening team on 0191 445 8747. You can also call this number if you need to rearrange your appointment.

For more information, visit www.gatesheadhealth.nhs.uk/services/aaa/ and watch our AAA Video: https://fb.watch/7tORZvND2n/

Ladies, If your male relatives are turning 65 and are invited for screening, encourage them to attend!
