Upcoming changes to the NHS app for Android and IOS
Apologies for this being technical but I wanted all our patients to be aware of the upcoming changes to the NHS app, especially if you have an older model mobile phone.
If you have older friends and relatives who may not be as tech savvy as younger people, please do assist them to check if their phone is on at least the minimum version of Android or IOS highlighted in blue below.
If the phone is on the minimum version or above then there should be no problems accessing the NHS app.
If the phone is on the versions in red below and can be upgraded please help your older friends and relatives to do this so they still have access to the updated NHS app.
If the phone is not on the the minimum version of Android or IOS and can’t be upgraded then users will need to access their NHS App services via their NHS Account using a web browser, details below.
Native NHS app – minimum version uplift
Upcoming changes to the minimum OS versions for iPhone (iOS) and Android phones required to access the NHS App.
The NHS App was redesigned last year and is now a native app (an app designed specifically for Android or iOS), allowing better management of its information architecture.
We are transitioning users from the old application to the new native versions.
This change will take effect on 3rd February 2025.
This will only affect people who aren’t able to update their device to the minimum supported version of Android or iOS.
The following versions of iOS and Android operation systems will be affected:
- iOS 12, 13 & 14 (iOS 13 &14 can be updated to iOS15)
- Android 6
- Android 7
The NHS App minimum supported versions are:
- Android version 8 or above, on a device with a front-facing camera
- Apple iOS version 15 or above, on a device with a front-facing camera.
Google has a guide on how to check and update your Android version.
Apple has a guide on how to update your iOS on iPhone.
Consequently, a small number of users will need to access their NHS App services via their NHS Account using a web browser. Use this link and watch these walk through videos to learn how – Watch the video to find out how using this link.
